1. Sustainability – Doing more with less
Adare has 2 deposit and return points, firstly Londis shop on Station Road and secondly Garvey’s Centra on the Main Street. The deposit and return scheme was launched nationally on Feb 1st 2024 and since then Garvey’s Centra has over 6,000 units per week returned with that figure expected to rise to 20,000 by July. Londis has over 8,000 units returned so far. This is an amazing number of units returned for recycling and these units are a great resource for our village.
2. Sustainability within Businesses
Adare is a destination for several thousands of tourists every year. ATT is in partnership with The Woodlands House Hotel, Adare Manor Hotel and The Dunraven Arms Hotel and all 3 hotels are striving to increase sustainability as part of their business model.
The Woodlands House Hotel has made incredible strides in sustainability and these efforts have been rewarded with a Gold Award in the 50 Shades of Green programme.
Adare Manor Hotel
Adare Manor Hotel are also making great strides in sustainability and as a World renowned destination resort it is wonderful to see the measures that they are undertaking. Adare Tidy Towns partner with Adare Manor for various events and we are looking forward to working with them as we aim to make the 2027 Ryder Cup event one of the most Sustainable events in the world. https://www.adaremanor.com/sustainability1105/
Garvey’s Centra
Garvey’s Centra have also made substantial sustainability measures which includes a choice of a fully compostable reusable bag or paper bag for customers. They installed solar panels in January, covering the roof of the shop along with fully LED lighting and new refrigeration. The energy saved with these investments will be enough to power 28 homes in the village of Adare. Centra will also be joining the Adare Green Hub.
3. Sustainability through Technology
We are promoting local events more through sustainable methods with technology and virtually with our social media and website through videos and photos with the help of John.
