Update on restoration works to the Adare Fountain.

As its National Heritage week here’s a quick update on the restoration work currently nearing completion on the Countess of Dunraven fountain in Adare. The fountain is one of many heritage sites in our village. It was gifted to the people of Adare by the Countess of Dunraven in 1855 in recognition of the role played by them in quenching a fire at Adare Manor in 1844 and bears the inscription “erected by Caroline Countess of Dunraven in grateful memory of the zeal shown by the people of this village in quenching fire at the offices Adare Manor on the 1st April 1844”. Its restoration was initiated by the Adare Tidy Towns group working with Limerick City & County Council in order to preserve it for future generations. The work carried out involved dismantling, cleaning and reassembling the entire structure in its original form using lime, restoration of the water flow and the widening of the surrounding area with new seating to make it accessible for all. As can be seen from the photos the project is well on its way to completion with a completion date of early September.
